Education

Pallets or skids are a rectangle structure that supports goods and products being lifted by a forklift or pallet jack. Goods are placed on the pallet and secured with shrink wrap or strapping and transported to its destination. Most pallets are made from wood, but pallets can also be made from recycled plastic or metal.

Reduce

Save a tree! Source pallets only from FSC registered forests and sawmills. Better still, reuse and recycle.

You can reduce the need to dispose of wooden pallets by returning them to the supplier.

Reuse

Make a compost bin by tying four pallets together in a square. Or rebuild into a raised garden bed, tool storage, vertical garden bed.

Pallet furniture is quite a thing; look online for ideas.

If your organisation has pallets it does not need consider putting them outside in a public place to allow staff or public to remove for reuse.

Recycle

These are no longer accepted at the Whanganui Resource Recovery Centre.

Disposal

Pallets can be cut up for kindling.
