Education

Joinery includes furniture, kitchen cabinets, window frames.

Reduce

Minimise the need to replace joinery by choosing good quality pieces that can last a lifetime.

Alternatively, buy good second-hand items.

Rather than replacing an item, see if it can be repaired.  Check out the Joinery Manufacturers listed in the Yellow Pages.

Reuse

Refurbish for a new look - sand, paint, replace fabric, fix new handles etc.

If untreated, cut up for firewood or kindling.

Strip for parts i.e. hinges, handles, screws.

Turn an old window into a cold-frame for your garden.

Use it to make another piece of furniture (e.g. turn a bed headboard into a coffee table, a dresser into a kitchen island).

Donate it.

On-sell it.

Recycle

If in good condition, consider donating to Salvation Army Family Store or Women's Refuge.

Disposal

Take to the waste transfer station.
